Plant van die week – Petunia

Blomme en groeibeskrywing:

image

Tuinplasing:

Plant in volle son. Vertoon mooi as beddingplante.

Voortplanting:

Groei maklik van saad.

Land van oorsprong:

Inheems in Suid-Amerika.

Courtyard Elegance

This garden is on display at Garden World, Beyers Naude Drive, Muldersdrift,
Gauteng Tel: 011 957 2046 or 083 997 6142, www.gardenworld.co.za.

‘Courtyard Elegance’ was designed and built by Leon Wagenaar of Leon’s Landscapes.

The sophisticated, lock up and go lifestyle of young South African professionals is finding concrete reality in the kind of outdoor living space that is being designed for contemporary homes.

image image

Within the confines of a 36 metre square space, Leon have incorporated a central spa pool for relaxing, a sun deck, an outdoor shower, a braai area, and dining area, with plants acting as room dividers and accessories to the main purpose of living. Slatted pergolas provide shade and wooden columns, inset with coloured glass, supply soft light at night.

It is a 24 hour living space that can, as easily, be left to its own devices.

The elements that make up the design are:

  • A planting scheme that is internationally minimalist, with a balance of light colours and interesting textures. Nandina pygmaea combined with Chondropetalum tectorum offsets clean lines, with a splash of orange red colour. Juncus effusus complemented by dark grey pebbles is not only an interesting juxtaposition of textures, but also produces a subtle blend of colours.

  • The use of glass (on the pillars) to reflect all the colour that is visible in the garden. There is a further interweaving of colour into the décor, plants, stone and glasswork.

  • The element of water in the garden that draws the two decked areas together creating a tranquil and elegant setting.

  • The flexible use of space; decking provides a continuous warm surface with steps wide and deep enough to sit on, a fold up table that adds an element of decoration to the wall. Split levels to encourage movement within the space, giving it a sense of greater spaciousness.
